About this course
Access to safe, legal, and person-centred medical abortion is an essential part of sexual and reproductive health services. In this course, you will learn how to provide evidence-based, quality medical abortion care based on WHO guidelines to improve the quality of care for everyone seeking and undergoing medical abortion.
This includes aspects of care provision as well as the person’s experience of care. Quality of care principles apply to all medical abortion providers and settings from hospitals to community health facilities.
The course is grounded in values that include compassion, respect dignity, person-centred care, equity and rights, collaborative teamwork, ethical practice, and moral courage. The course aims to ensure all providers, in all settings, are committed to promoting a safe, respectful and stigma-free abortion experience for every person seeking abortion care.

What will you learn?
You will learn to support safe, respectful and stigma-free medical abortion care through effective communication, respectful behaviour and the provision of emotional support as desired.
Assessment and Award
You will receive a WHO Academy Award of Completion for each module if you complete all the learning activities. These awards are saved in your ‘My Achievements’ space and can be downloaded and shared.
Learning experience
Four self-paced, online modules with multiple interactive learning activities. You can complete the modules in any order, but we recommend you follow the sequence.
The content provided in this online course is based on the WHO Abortion care guidelines which are global recommendations.
Specific national regulations, policies, and procedures are not contained in this course.
