Pathfinder edition

Welcome to the pathfinder edition of the ‘Strengthening primary health care leadership: Global capacity-building course’, produced by the Special Program for Primary Health Care and the WHO Academy. This is the first version of the course, and your feedback on the learning experience will help us adapt and improve it for future participants.

About this course

This comprehensive course equips policy and decision-makers with essential skills to drive transformative change in their health systems. By focusing on the Primary Health Care (PHC) approach, you will learn strategies to help reorient health systems toward PHC and accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Designed in line with WHO’s vision of people-centered, resilient, and sustainable healthcare systems, the approximately 80-hour course empowers you to champion health equity, promote social justice, and uphold the right to health for all.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for senior policy-makers and decision-makers (with at least 5 years of experience) within Ministries of Health, health financing agencies, and regional and local governments with responsibilities for designing and implementing PHC for UHC polices.

What will you learn?

  • Demonstrate a common understanding of PHC and its contribution to achieving universal health coverage.
  • Utilize the PHC operational framework levers to address implementation barriers and drive health system transformation.
  • Apply evidence-informed strategies and tools to national and subnational policy and planning processes for PHC strengthening.
  • Demonstrate leadership through change management in health systems to strengthen PHC.
