About this course

Learning activities and lessons focus on what you, the health professional, do. Each module offers opportunities for practising the core competencies of a health practitioner in the sound management of chemicals through multiple choice questions, reflection, exploratory tasks and authentic case studies. The interactive tasks incorporate pre-recorded videos, audio narration, readings and guides.

Who is this course for?

The course targets health and related professionals involved in the sound management of chemicals. Policymakers and decision-makers will gain an understanding of the scale of the problem, the international policy framework and the tools available for support, gaining insight into the health sector’s role in bringing the public health aspects into consideration for decision-making relating to chemicals.

What will you learn?

You will learn the basic technical skills required for sound management of chemicals – including how to obtain authoritative information about hazardous chemicals, carry out chemical risk assessments and support the response to chemical incidents.

Assessment and award

A WHO Academy Award of Completion is awarded for successful completion of all learning activities in modules A, B and C.

Learning experience

This is a learner-centred, competency-orientated online course delivered in three self-paced modules which incorporates authentic and experiential learning activities designed to foster critical thinking and decision-making competencies.

Two interactive online simulation exercises will follow in a later release (2024).

The modules are to be completed in consecutive order.

  2. Module B. Health sector role
  3. Module C. Core technical functions by health sector

It is estimated each of the three online modules will take about 60-75 minutes to complete.
