Harnessing the power of routine health facility data: Tuberculosis
Learn how to analyse, interpret, and present routine tuberculosis (TB) surveillance data and how to make use of your findings.
Early-release course
You are accessing an early-release version of the ‘Harnessing the power of routine health facility data: Tuberculosis’ course, produced by the WHO Global Tuberculosis Programme and the WHO Academy. We encourage you to provide feedback on your learning experience which will be used to adapt and improve the course and the WHO Academy online platform.
About this course
Using real data and life-like scenarios, you will learn how to analyse, interpret, and present routine tuberculosis surveillance data and how to make use of your findings to generate hypotheses for further investigation or plan for a programmatic response. These skills will help you to contribute to evidence-informed TB programme planning.
Who is this course for?
Health facility workers involved in the recording and reporting of TB data; TB monitoring and evaluation officers or programme officers in all administrative units; partner organisations and consultants providing technical assistance to TB programmes.
Prerequisite knowledge
Some knowledge of tuberculosis recording and reporting practices as well as basic understanding of epidemiology is recommended, but not essential. Key principles will be reviewed throughout the course.
What will you learn?
By the end of the course, you will be able to critically appraise the quality of TB surveillance data, know how to interpret core indicators for routine TB surveillance, identify opportunities for further investigation, and ultimately use your findings to contribute to evidence-informed TB programme planning.
Learning experience
The course contains four online modules and you can progress through them at your own pace. We recommend following the sequence. There are frequent opportunities to check your learning. Each module finishes with a practice exercise where you will be asked to respond to a series of questions based on a case scenario.
Assessment and award
You will receive a WHO Academy Award of Completion when you complete all learning activities in a module. These awards are saved in your ‘My Achievements’ space and can be downloaded and shared.
